Go-ahead tipped for major Perry Barr regeneration scheme

Up to 500 new homes and a secondary school could be constructed in Birmingham after the proposals were recommended for the green light.About 31 acres of land to the east of Wellhead Lane, Perry Barr, has been earmarked for the scheme.The land was formally used by Birmingham City University for student accommodation and sports facilities but has now been cleared. It has also been used for industry and as a National Express depot.According to the plans, the proposed school and sixth form would have space for 1,260 students.The application is part of a wider plan to regenerate the Perry Barr area ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.Birmingham City Council’s planning committee will make a final decision at a meeting on Thursday 1 August.
