Great Places consults on Beswick social housing scheme
Great Places Housing Group has launched a public consultation on its proposals for an “affordable” housing development in Beswick. The Manchester-based housing association is seeking views from the local community ahead of a planning application submission for the proposed scheme. It proposes 69 apartments for social rent on a vacant site on the corner of Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road. The site is brownfield having been previously occupied by the Manchester Bar pub, which was demolished in 2020.The planned scheme will deliver a mix of one- and two-bed apartments. Proposals include private garden spaces to ground floor apartments, recessed balconies for apartments above ground floor level and high quality landscaping.New pedestrian links will also improve the connectivity to Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road from Newcombe Close. The proposals have been developed working in close partnership with Manchester City Council, One Manchester, and This City as part of the wider proposals for the Grey Mare Lane estate masterplan.Helen Spencer, executive director of growth at Great Places, said: “We’re delighted to launch our public consultation and engage the local community on our plans which will provide a landmark gateway development as part of wider Grey Mare Lane Masterplan area.“The proposed development will provide high-quality, affordable housing in the area and we look forward to hearing the views of the local community and working with our partners to make this vision a reality.”Read next: Valleys to Coast starts first project outside BridgendAre you a social housing professional?
