Green light due for extra care scheme

Proposals for an extra care facility on the grounds of Burnley General Hospital are set to be approved.A total of 93 apartments in a three/four-storey extra care accommodation building form the scheme on land to the west of Briercliffe Road. The building would have ancillary commercial facilities, landscaped gardens, and car parking with access from Briercliffe Road, if approval is granted.Calico Homes is behind the application.The application side is part of the grounds of Burnley Hospital. The site contains a number of buildings which would be demolished.The proposal would provide 16 one bedroom and 77 two bedroom apartments, generally targeted at people aged 55 and over.It is intended that 100 per cent affordable housing would be provided by way of affordable rent. The applicant will work with other organisations, including Lancashire County Council who would appoint a future care provider to work at the facility. Some 15 to 20 jobs would be provided from the scheme. Burnley Council officials have made a recommendation to approve the plans subject to a section 106 agreement.Burnley’s development control committee meets on Wednesday (9 February).
