Green light for 11-storey Liverpool scheme

An application to build an 11-storey mixed-use scheme in Liverpool city centre has been given the green light.Smith Young Architecture is behind the project, which is earmarked for land bounded by St Bartholomew Road, Oriel Street and Naylor Street.Proposed is a linear block of between six to 11 storeys, comprising 240 apartments together with 13 commercial units, an 85-space car park and a 142-space cycle parking provision.The flats will be made up of 82 studios, 75 one-beds and 83 two-beds.The application site was the subject of site clearance a number of years ago and has been used as surface car parking since 2001. It is considered to have a “fairly weak relationship with, and make a poor visual contribution to, surrounding streets”.A report to the authority’s planning committee also noted that the application will assist in the planned mixed-use expansion into the Pumpfields area.
