A new community with up to 1,500 homes, a primary school, transport interchange and 175,000 sq ft of business space could be built on a site outside Cardiff after outline planning permission was granted for the project.Persimmon Homes (East Wales) lodged plans in 2014 for a site in Creigiau, in the northwest corner of the Cardiff City Council area. The developer intends to build up to 1,500 homes, with a mix of houses, apartments and sheltered accommodation for the elderly, as well as a 1,000 space park-and-ride facility and transport interchange. Its proposals also include a new primary school, 175,000 sq ft of office, workshop and research and development facilities, and a 27,000 sq ft local centre including shops and commercial space. The site is allocated in the local development plan for a mixed-use scheme with up to 2,000 homes. The scheme aims to create a new sustainable community linked to the centre of Cardiff by public transport.Cardiff City Council voted to grant outline planning consent at a meeting of its planning committee. This is despite a number of objections to the proposals from nearby residents, including concerns over the scale of the project, loss of countryside and potential traffic issues.
