Developer Countryside and housing association partner Riverside have been cleared to redevelop Pike Close housing estate in Bromley. The team will now start work this summer on the first phase of the planned 170 new homes, including 92 affordable homes for the estate’s existing residents.Planning involves the phased demolition of all existing buildings to make way for several blocks ranging up to 14 storeys.Designed by architect HTA, the new development as a whole is anticipated to complete in 2031. Importantly the phasing has been planned so that existing residents only need to move once. The proposed development also utilises efficient building design to reduce energy bills for residents, alongside the installation of PVs.The new development will nearly double the number of trees on the site once complete.Bromley planning approval follows of five years of consultation and engagement with residents residing at Pike Close, which resulted in an 82% ballot in favour of redevelopment in May 2019.
