Green light for 2,500-home York Central plans

Plans for the redevelopment of a key brownfield site in York, which would include 2,500 homes and support the creation of 6,500 jobs, have been given the green light.The outline planning application for the York Central scheme was given the go-ahead by City of York Council’s planning committee.The proposals for the 178-acre site include 2,500 homes, almost one million sq ft of office space, retail and leisure units, a hotel and car parking as well as an extension to the National Railway Museum. It is expected to support the creation of up to 6,500 jobs and add more than £1.16bn to the city’s GVA.The York Central Partnership (YCP) members, Homes England, Network Rail, National Railway Museum and City of York Council, have been working collaboratively for the past four years on a £155m funding package for infrastructure works to unlock the brownfield land.As majority landowners, Homes England and Network Rail will act as master developers for the site.
