Discount supermarket Aldi is to proceed with plans to develop a new store in Crewe after its proposal secured approval. The scheme, which was recommended for refusal by planning officers for a third time, is to replace Aldi’s existing store at Grand Junction Retail Park, which is set for closure when the lease expires in March 2020.Despite the recommendation, Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board decided in favour of Aldi’s proposals by nine votes to two.Aldi argued that other possible sites were not suitable or available while the plans also garnered support from the local community, neighbours and two local parish councils.Construction is scheduled to begin before the end of the year. The project team included: JLL Planning and Heritage, Built Environment Communications Group, Cameron Rose Associates, The Harris Partnership, Lamb & Swift Commercial, and Aaron and Partners.
