Green light for conversion of historic pub

Planning permission has been granted for the conversion of a historic Sheffield pub into a drive-thru and coffeehouse.The grade II-listed Carbrook Hall in Attercliffe can trace its history back to 1176. During the Civil War it was owned by leading Parliamentarian Thomas Bright and used as a meeting place during the siege of Sheffield Castle. It is also claimed to be one of Yorkshire’s most haunted buildings.The pub has been closed since February after being sold by Punch Taverns to West Street Leisure (WSL). Its future was in doubt after an arson attack on the site in May when the building was registered by Sheffield City Council as an asset of community value.Sheffield City Council’s planning committee gave the green light yesterday (27 November 2018) to a proposal on behalf of WSL for a 60-seat Starbucks coffeehouse and drive-thru development. An officer’s report prepared ahead of the meeting had recommended approval.The scheme, which is expected to create 15 full-time and 20 part-time jobs, has been designed by Self Architects and White Design.
