Green light for cruise terminal hotel

Plans have been approved for a new cruise terminal hotel in Liverpool. The award of planning permission marks a major step forward for Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme.The new 200-bed hotel was given the green light at Liverpool City Council’s planning committee meeting on 8 October following submission for detailed planning in April this year.The four-star hotel, which is being built by Wates Construction, will support Liverpool’s new Cruise Liner Terminal at Princes Dock, which once built, will accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships.Wates’ planning consultant for the scheme was Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). Construction of the new hotel is expected to commence early 2020 and will involve Wates fulfilling a commitment to provide extensive training and employment opportunities for local people as well as appointing local supply chain partners. Construction of the new hotel was procured by the city council via Major Works UK, part of Scape’s National Construction framework.Wates’ design team includes Brock Carmichael as architect, Curtins as civil and structural engineer, Ramboll as mechanical and electrical engineers and Planit as landscape architects. The cruise terminal facility is supported with £20m from the Local Growth Fund, which is awarded to the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and invested through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund.
