Green light for Derbyshire solar farm
Plans for a solar farm with the potential to power thousands of homes in Derbyshire have been green lit. Anesco Ltd sought the go-ahead from North East Derbyshire District Council to develop the 19.657MW farm on land at Chesterfield Road in Shirland for a temporary period of 40 years.The site, which extends to approximately 93.6 acres of agricultural land, is adjacent to an industrial estate and Alfreton Sewage Treatment Works.The project will involve the installation of transformers, a substation, a DNO control room, a customer substation, GRP comms cabin, security fencing, landscaping and other associated infrastructure.Anesco Ltd expects the scheme to power approximately 4,946 homes and result in an approximate saving of 4,378 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
