A host of new social homes have been approved for development in east Belfast.Plans for 31 social housing units were green lit, which will include 16 apartments and 15 townhouses. The proposal will also involve car parking, landscaping and associated site works on the Woodstock and Beersbridge Road. These plans were approved following Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee meeting yesterday evening, 20 September.Councillors also granted approval for a three-storey extension at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. This development will consist of a bridge link to the existing school building, reconfiguration of existing parking and the restoration of hard play areas.Chair of the Planning Committee Councillor Carl Whyte said: “This is really positive news for Belfast and in particular the communities in east and north Belfast.”Access to affordable social housing makes a real difference to people’s lives and will enable communities like those in both the Woodstock and Beersbridge Road to thrive.”Schools and homes are the essence of our local communities and really improve the social fabric of the area. I am delighted these two major applications were approved this evening as everyone in our city should have the opportunity to access an affordable home and an adequate school building.”
