Green light for hotel on stadium site
Planning approval has been granted for a new hotel on a site at Huddersfield’s John Smiths Stadium.WYG, on behalf of Kirklees Stadium Development and Hotel Land and Development, submitted an application to Kirklees Council earlier this year for a site off Stadium Way.The planned development comprises a 148-bedroom hotel, comprising more than 70,000 sq ft of space across five levels. Support services and facilities, including a restaurant/bar, and gym would also be provided.Hilton Hotel Group is set to operate the new venue as a Hilton Garden Inn.At a meeting of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee last week (24 October), authority to approve the application and issue the decision notice was delegated to the head of development and master planning.Approval was granted in line with the recommendation of a council planning officer, as previously reported by Insider.The hotel has been designed to form part new HD One leisure and entertainment development, and to support the wider stadium complex.
