GOutline approval for a major job-creating site at Teesworks, which will home the North East Energy Recovery Facility, has been granted. The application by South Tees Development Corporation (STDC) proposes the development of more than 1.5million sq ft of general industry, storage of distribution facilities.STDC was established as the public sector vehicle for creating area-wide economic regeneration in the area which will help boost the wider economic growth plans of the Tees Valley. The 143-acre application site, known as Dorman Point, falls within the STDC Masterplan area, which sets out the vision for transforming the Teesworks area into a large-scale industrial business park. The vision also includes the creation of up to 20,000 jobs.Part of the site will be home to Teesworks skills academy, which will support the work of the organisation in helping local people take advantage of the jobs and opportunities being created on the site. The £2.1m development comprises 5,400 sq ft across two-floors with three classrooms plus meeting and interview rooms, as well as hot desking for companies looking to base themselves on-site.The site is also earmarked for the North East Energy Recovery Facility which will be accessed through a £4.5m roundabout being created on Eston Road.A planning statement alongside the application said that, once operational, the site could “position Redcar to compete for businesses and investment on an international stage, creating a net increase in local employment and the economic output that flows from this”.Once complete, Dorman Point could generate about 1,620 gross direct FTE jobs.About 95 to 101 direct jobs could also be created during the construction phase, alongside an additional 142 to 152 indirect jobs.
