Green light for mixed-use city centre scheme

Plans to construct a mixed-use scheme including 126 apartments in Leicester city centre have been approved.The proposals backed by Leicester City Council for a site in Belgrave Gate also include 5,166 sq ft of commercial space.The development will feature 81 one-bed flats and 45 with two beds across a block facing Belgrave Gate rising to five storeys and blocks facing New Road up to five, seven and nine storeys. Another nine-storey block facing Mansfield Street is also to be built.The site earmarked for the scheme is the former ABC Cinema and is currently used as a car park.An organisation called the Trustees of GS Fashions Retirement Benefit Scheme is behind the scheme.
