Planning permission has been granted for the creation of a mixed-use development of office, light industrial and retail using shipping containers on a site in Sheffield.JR Planning Consultants, on behalf of My Container Ltd, submitted an application to Sheffield City Council earlier this year for the development on a site off Bardwell Road. The scheme is set to be developed on the site of the My Container Ltd business, which specialises in shipping container architecture. The company produces structures for a range of purposes from unused shipping containers, including office space, retail units, educational and other commercial space. The development is set to comprise a cluster of about 40 container units. About 60 per cent of the units are expected to be occupied as offices, 30 per cent as shop units and the remaining 10 per cent for financial and professional services, cafes, restaurants and drinking establishments, and light industrial. An external courtyard would provide 24 parking spaces.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The proposal represents an exciting opportunity to breathe new life into this predominantly industrial area but in a manner which would not undermine the employment-generating nature of the locality and the important contribution that this makes to the economy.”The council has now granted planning consent for the development, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.
