Green light for new office building
Planning consent has been granted for the development of a new grade A office building in South Shields.South Tyneside Council’s Planning committee considered an application from Muse Developments, supported by WSP | Indigo, at a meeting earlier this week (26 May 2020).The application covers the construction of a two-storey building comprising about 14,400 sq ft of office space.A staff car park will be provided to the west of the site and will house seven car parking spaces, including one wheelchair accessible space and infrastructure for two electric vehicle charging points. A covered cycle shelter with the capacity to store 12 bicycles will also be located within the area, which will be fenced off from the public. The committee voted to grant planning consent, subject to conditions, in line with a planning officer’s recommendation. The 0.52-acre application site is currently used as an open air surface car park owned and operated by South Tyneside Council.Outline planning consent was previously granted for office development on the site, but this scheme was not implemented and the permission has lapsed.
