Green light for property development near St Marys in Southampton
Plans to build 384 build-to-rent flats on the site of a former gasworks near St Mary’s in Southampton have received approval.Hawkstone Properties submitted the planning application for the site in Britannia Road in 2022.The scheme is said to be an opportunity to deliver well needed housing for the city as well as the provision of employment opportunities as a result of its proposed commercial uses.Phil Noott, founder and chairman of Hawkstone Properties, said: “We have spent the past four years collaborating with Southampton City Council and our consultants on the development of this landmark residential Scheme on the former Britannia Road gasworks site.”Our vision for the project is to contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of this part of Southampton adjacent to St. Mary’s stadium.”The distinctive scheme, which will form the Northern Gateway to the Itchen Riverside and City’ has been designed to echo its industrial past in both its architectural and landscape design.”
