Plans for a “much-needed investment” at the Science and Industry Museum (SIM) in Manchester have been approved. The Science Museum Group – which operates the venue – is behind the application. The main campus currently comprises the New Warehouse, which hosts the entrance to the venue; the Power Hall, which is home to the transport exhibitions; the Pineapple Line Colonnaded Viaduct, an iron railway structure with storage facilities below the track level; and the 1830 Complex, which includes the Station Building.Proposed is establishing a special exhibition gallery within the basement of the grade II-listed New Warehouse. This is currently used as storage for the museum’s artefacts. The development will provide jobs both during the construction phase and upon completion.Approval was granted by Manchester City Council.
