Green light for Science Central building
Plans to build a £20m laboratory at Newcastle Science Central have been approved in a move which will create hundreds of jobs.Newcastle Laboratory will provide more than 70,000 sq ft of specialist facilities for the life sciences and healthcare sector in the region, offering incubation and grow-on space.The building has been developed by a design team led by Aura and Ryder.In May, Insider revealed that plans for the project, which is expected to create about 275 jobs, had been submitted.It is anticipated that building work will start on site in early 2017 with completion expected by spring 2018.Nick Forbes, leader of Newcastle City Council, said the laboratory would provide “much needed specialist facilities to support pioneering research and significant expertise happening here already”.
