Green light for townhouse development

Plans for the demolition of an existing care home in Newcastle to provide room for the construction of 13 townhouses is set to be given the go-ahead. Property company Michael Sehgal Properties submitted proposals to Newcastle City Council in April 2019, outlining its plans to demolish North Road Care Homes in Gosforth to make way for the development of townhouses.Originally, the number of units proposed was 15 but this has since been amended. The current plans consist of nine-three bedroom houses and four four-bedroom houses, configured as three groups of three terraced townhouses and two groups of semi-detached. Six townhouses would be positioned to the north of the site fronting Hollywood Avenue and the remaining mix of semi-detached and terraced townhouses (seven units) would be to the south of the site.Access to the site for vehicles and pedestrians would be via an existing entry/exit point from Hollywood Avenue.According to a report to be scrutinised by councillors at a planning committee meeting this week (September 27 2019), planning should be granted, subject to conditions, including a £25,000 contribution towards off site infrastructure including sport and recreation, children’s play and allotments, and the provision of a method statement for the demolition of the care home.
