Green Light for Trio of School Projects

A trio of applications involving Cardiff schools have been approved.At St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School, on Dunster Road in Llanrumney, Cardiff Council has secured permission for an additional learning needs school.The proposal forms part of a programme which seeks to enhance and expand the special education needs provision across the city to 72 places across two site, including at Dunster Road and another new school at land to the south of Fairwater Primary School. The application for Fairwater Primary School, on Wellwright Road in Fairwater was also considered by Cardiff Council’s planning committee. Each site will accommodate 36 additional learning needs pupil places, with approximately 27 staff members for each school.A third application from the council has been approved and concerns a two-acres site on land to the east of Meadowbank Special School, Colwill Road in Llandaff NorthMeadowbank School currently accommodates 62 pupils aged four to 11 with ASD, physical/medical needs and general learning difficulties. A report for Cardiff’s planning committee said the proposal “seeks to enhance and expand the special educational needs provision across the city” and allow expansion of pupil provision within the existing school site by providing an additional 36 pupil places, with 98 pupils in total on site.
