A proposed development of more than 320 private rented sector (PRS) apartments in Leeds city centre looks set to get the go-ahead later this week (22 October 2020).Developer S Harrison submitted a full planning application to Leeds City Council last year for a site made up of two parcels of vacant land between East Street and Ellerby Road.Four new buildings are proposed that would stand between seven and nine storeys high, formed around a central courtyard. In total, 322 one-, two- and three-bedroom, PRS apartments would be provided. The development would also include secure undercroft car parking and cycle storage facilities, as well as a residents’ gym, café and commercial space. The scheme is expected to support the creation of construction jobs as well as employment opportunities within the completed development. The application will go before the council’s City Plans Panel on 22 October and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the remote meeting. The development has been designed by Leeds-based architecture practice Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher. The site is allocated for residential purposes in the Aire Valley Leeds Area Action Plan.
