Green light recommended for multi-storey car park
A proposed multi-storey car park forming part of the West Bar mixed-use development in Sheffield is recommended for approval next week (30 November 2021).Developer, Urbo (West Bar) Ltd, a joint venture between Urbo Regeneration and Peveril Securities (the development arm of the Bowmer and Kirkland Group), submitted a reserved matters application to Sheffield City Council earlier this year for the No.4 West Bar Square site.Approval is sought for the construction of a nine-storey multi-storey car park with a gross internal area of about 150,000 sq ft.The car park would feature 470 car parking spaces, five motorcycle spaces, five bicycle spaces, an operator’s office, a small estate office and a substation.The application will go before the council’s planning and highways committee on 30 November and is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, in an officer’s report prepared for the meeting.The project team includes Stripe Consulting, 5plus architects, Mott MacDonald, Gardiner & Theobold, Asteer Planning and Planit.ie.Outline planning permission for the wider West Bar development was granted in 2017.Approval was granted earlier this year (August 2021) for the first phase of the West Bar development, comprising No.1 West Bar Square, a 100,000 sq ft office building with ground floor retail and leisure space, and Soho Yard, a development of 368 build-to-rent residential apartments in a pair of 15- and 19-storey building.Phase two plans for West Bar include a second Legal & General-funded, 100,000 sq ft office building, with further phases ultimately providing one million sq ft of mixed-use accommodation.
