Green light secured for new solar park development

The green light has been secured for the construction of a new solar park designed to generate clean renewable electricity in Swansea.Wessex Solar Energy filed the proposals with Swansea Council for the development of a new nine-megawatt solar park, located approximately 1.9 km to the west of Clydach.The Solar Park will occupy approximately 34 acres of land at Felin Wen Farm.The scheme comprises of up to 25,000 PV panels, as well as up to nine inverter/transformer cabins and a single control building.A competitive tendering process will be undertaken to determine the supplier/manufacturer of the PV panels and associated equipment.Construction of the solar park is expected to commence in 2020 and last for up to 4 months. The applicant expects up to 50 jobs to be created during the construction phase.The Solar Park would have an operational lifetime of at least 40 years after which it would be decommissioned and all above ground aspects of the development removed from site.The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
