Green light tipped for prominent BTR project
An application proposing the redevelopment of a former factory site in Birmingham to provide hundreds of new homes in blocks rising to 26 storeys could soon be green lit.Camp Hill Unit Trust, represented by Goodstone Living Ltd, is seeking the go-ahead to transform the site at 193 Camp Hill, which was previously occupied by Sulzer, an international company specialising in pumping services, rotating equipment and separation, mixing and application technology.Once the existing buildings have been demolished and the site cleared, it would be redeveloped with six blocks ranging from three to 26 storeys in height.The blocks comprise 550 apartments, including studios and a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats. A number of four-bedroom townhouses are also proposed.The applicants also intend to provide approximately 18,500 sq ft flexible employment and commercial space.A statement filed with Birmingham City Council on behalf of the applicants said: “The revised proposals will significantly enhance the contribution that this site makes to the area and will help to stimulate the further transformation and regeneration of Digbeth.”The investment in the area and new community on the site, as well as the creation of jobs both during construction and on completion of the development, will further result in significant economic benefits serving to enhance the viability of Camp Hill and Digbeth.”Moreover, the applicant is in a position to start on-site and deliver this key development as soon as planning permission is granted.”The proposal, therefore, offers sustainable development in accordance with the aims and objectives of both local and national planning policy and should be approved in a timely manner.”The application will be reviewed by the council’s planning committee on 18 August.A report for the committee said: “The proposed scheme would redevelop this vacant site in a prominent location, making effective use of the land to create a community within a high-quality environment.”Approval has been recommended, subject to conditions.
