Havering affordable housing programme gains approval

Planning approval has been granted to the Rainham site of the Havering Borough Council and Wates Residential joint-venture programme which will see to the construction of 12 housing estates at an overall cost of £1Bn.The Napier and New Plymouth House project in Rainham, Havering, received approval from a Strategic Planning Committee last week and now only require the approval of the London Mayor before construction can commence.The project will see to the creation of some 126 affordable homes as well as a further 71 homes to be sold within the private sector, while the wider ’12 Estates regeneration project’ will aim to construct 5,200 new homes over the course of the next 12 to 15 years and double the amount of affordable housing in the London Borough of Havering.The Strategic Planning process was extremely extensive, entailing a series of public consultations in addition to more than 600 one-to-one consultations with members of the public and business owners in the local area.Should the Mayor of London grant the final say of approval, the company Kilnbridge Construction Services has been appointed to demolish the current structures on the site of Napier and New Plymouth house ahead of the new homes’ construction.
