Hotel proposed on former fire station site

Proposals have been brought forward for a new boutique hotel within former fire station buildings in Newcastle.Taras Properties will invest in the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed fire station buildings on Pilgrim Street to develop a new 60-bed hotel, along with 3,850 sq ft of restaurant and bar uses located at ground floor level.The scheme will also involve public realm improvements to Pilgrim Street incorporating planting and new seating areas.Taras Properties, which owns the site, has worked up the development proposals with Newcastle City Council. A public consultation exhibition for businesses and residents in the surrounding area is scheduled to commence on 15 October. The consultation window will close on 1 November, following which the project team will review the comments received. A planning application for the project is anticipated to be submitted to the council in November. Avison Young’s Newcastle office is appointed to provide commercial, town planning and project management advice on the scheme, with Ryder Architecture behind the design of the project. Cundall is providing engineering input.
