Housing development set for approval

Plans for a housing development on an area of agricultural land in North Yorkshire look set to get the green light from councillorsLoxley Homes submitted an outline application to Harrogate Borough Council in 2017 for a site on the eastern edge of the village of Green Hammerton.The developer is seeking consent for up to 80 houses on the agricultural site, with 32 of these to be designated as affordable housing. The number of properties has been reduced from 90 following public consultation.The application also proposes that York Road is re-routed through the site to a new junction with the A59 further to the east.The council’s planning committee will consider the plans with a report prepared for the meeting that it is deferred and approved subject to conditions and a S106 Agreement.The recommendation has been made despite 282 objections received over three public consultation periods. Concerns raised include the strain that could be put on existing facilities, the scale of the development and the loss of the land for agricultural use.
