A masterplan designed to create up to 1,700 homes in Durham is set to go out to public consultation later this year. The Sniperley Park development, which will include the homes, a school and amenities, will be discussed by councillors in a Durham County Council cabinet meeting on Wednesday 17 November. The development is part of the County Durham Plan which sets out a vision for the counties housing, jobs and environment until 2035, as well as the transport infrastructure, schools, and healthcare to support it.Land at Sniperley Park was allocated within the plan to build the new homes along with associated facilities to create a self-sustaining community.A comprehensive masterplan has been developed for the scheme, which will guide future planning applications and ensure new developments meet national and local objectives for sustainable development, good design, as well as meeting housing needs including affordable and older persons housing.A Healthy Active Travel Connectivity Plan has also been prepared to consider opportunities for active travel both within and surrounding the site, including strong connections beyond the A167 for convenient, safe and attractive cycleways and footpaths.Cabinet members will be asked to consider the draft plan, which will then be taken to public consultation from 29 November to 14 January.
