Housing minister welcomes latest phase of Longbridge project
The minister for housing has welcomed the launch of the latest phase of St Modwen’s Longbridge development, which is expected to create a further 7,500 jobs.The latest phase of development brings the total of full-time jobs being created by St Modwen at Longbridge to 10,500.Since beginning development in 2007, the company has provided jobs for 3,000 people and built 1,450 homes, as well as offices, a new town centre and park, Bournville College and facilities such as the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.Planning applications for the West Works and MG Rover’ sites at Longbridge, which form part of the latest phase of development, are expected to be determined by the spring 2022.The MG Rover factory floor site will feature a mix of homes, 10 acres of green space, and will preserve buildings including the International HQ, Roundhouse and Car Assembly Building.Development of the West Works, producing 900,000 sq ft of commercial space as well as a 350-home neighbourhood, was unlocked through partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and a £6m grant funding contribution.
