Outline plans have been submitted to build homes at the site of the Acklam Iron and Steel Works Athletic Club in Middlesbrough. The three-acre plot on Park Road South was historically used as football pitches associated with the working men’s club, but the design and access statement said that these have not been used for more than ten years. The proposed development looks to create 51 homes on the land to bring a “varied housing provision and good quality design to the site”.Outline approval was previously granted for the site in July 2020 for a proposal which included 55 homes, a new football pitch and changing facilities. However, the updated plans scale back the number of homes, and do not include a pitch, which now looks to be located elsewhere on land identified by the council. The proposals will go before Middlesbrough planning committee in due course.
