Huge Dorset development set to be backed
Plans to build a 760-home development in Dorset could soon take their latest step forward. The proposals were revised after coming up against strong opposition. The application concerns land at the Foundry Lea site in Bridport, with outline approval having already been secured.Since the scheme was first revealed, it has undergone “numerous alterations” following a “significant amount” of feedback during which concerns were raised. Engagements were held with statutory consultees, Bridport Town Council, Symondsbury Parish Council and the LPA.Lined up are 760 homes across 31 different types, with 84 per cent being housing and 6 per cent being apartments. There would be 28 one-beds, 194 two-beds, 318 three-beds, 212 four-beds and eight five-beds.Elsewhere, the development would include a host of landscaping, play areas, football pitches and changing rooms, allotments and parking. The original submission had 92 letters of objection from those in the area. However, following the revisions, the number dropped to nine.A report drawn up ahead of Dorset Council’s planning committee meeting on 4 August notes that the proposals are considered to be of an “appropriate appearance, layout and scale, with appropriate landscaping incorporated”.
