Huge logistics scheme plans in pipeline

Peel L&P and Tungsten Properties have unveiled plans for a huge logistics and industrial building in Wirral, which would create more than 500 jobs.A planning application submitted to Wirral Council seeks permission for the construction of a building for employment purposes at Ark Royal, Birkenhead.Plans would see employment floorspace, with a gross internal floorspace of 494,750 sq ft developed. Office accommodation is also included as part of the scheme.Planning documents said the proposed development will support 535 gross permanent full-time equivalent jobs once it is built and occupied. This includes supporting an estimated 529 temporary roles on-site and in the wider economy over the 10-month build programme.The additional GVA attributable to the site once operational and fully occupied is estimated at £22.9m per annum.Proposals also include provision for dedicated car parking, servicing facilities and new access and egress infrastructure to service the building. The scheme also provides an external gatehouse and warehouse operations office to control HGV movements and enhance safety and security across the site.The site, located on the west bank of the River Mersey close to the mouth, is currently unoccupied and is being prepared for development by the land owner.
