Hulton Park in Bolton, which is the subject of major restoration and redevelopment plans, is down to the last two potential venues with a chance of hosting the Ryder Cup in 2031 or 2035.Plans by Peel L&P aim to deliver a new international sports destination, along with housing, and a host of community and health and wellbeing benefits. The proposals are dependent upon securing the rights to host the Ryder Cup, for which the venue has been shortlisted, with a decision due in early 2022.The scheme will open up green spaces for residents, creating more than 1,000 jobs, transport improvements and unlocking £1.6bn in socio-economic benefits for Bolton and the wider region over the next 20 years. Now UK Sport and Ryder Cup Europe are working on the feasibility of hosting the event in England. There is a shortlist of two venues – the London Golf Club and the UK’s possible newest international golf and leisure destination – Hulton Park. The selection process is expected to be concluded over the coming months, presenting the UK government with the opportunity to secure enormous socio-economic, health and cultural benefits. The prospect of the £200m investment by Peel L&P faces a crucial planning decision in just two weeks’ time. Hulton Park has been described as a “transformational opportunity” to build a legacy for future generations and put Bolton on an international stage, supporting the government’s Levelling Up commitment. Richard Knight, Peel L&P’s director of planning and strategy said: “A previous scheme has already been approved by Bolton Council and then by the Secretary of State following a public inquiry. This is an improved scheme, much greener, more inclusive and accessible. “The planning officers have recommended approval of this groundbreaking vision for Hulton Park and by investing hundreds of millions in the area, this is a transformational opportunity for generations to come. “As we look ahead to the planning committee decision on the 24 February, we sincerely hope that the council seizes the moment and gets behind this once in a generation opportunity.”TAGSPeel L&P / SUBSCRIBE TO OUR EMAIL NEWSLETTERS REGISTER NOW – IT’S FREE!SECTOR NEWSNew depot for bus services New depot for bus services 11 Feb 2022 North WestSt Helens RFC secures new sponsorship deal St Helens RFC secures new sponsorship deal 7 Feb 2022 North WestAccident firm on track for £8m revenueAccident firm on track for £8m revenue 3 Feb 2022 North WestPremium Liverpool gym firm opens up new city centre site Premium Liverpool gym firm opens up new city centre site 1 Feb 2022 North WestSPONSORED FINANCIAL CONTENTCONTACT USGot a news story for us?
