Hundreds of new homes look set to progress
Plans for a three-stage residential development in South Tyneside look set to move forward. The hybrid application, by Keepmoat Homes and Cussins, proposes the development of 48 homes in phase one on land and a car park at Laygate Street and West Holborn. The outline application for phase two and three proposes a development of approximately 300 homes, on land at various streets in South Shields. The first phase of the application, which will occupy about 3.3 acres, comprises largely open space with a play area, while phases two and three, comprises 14 acres of former industrial and employment land that is no longer in use.The homes in the first stage will be a mix of two-three-and-four bedrooms across two to three storeys.A replacement play area is also proposed within this phase.A report prepared by planners said: “The proposed development would positively contribute towards the Borough’s housing land supply and it sits within land that is expressly allocated in the adopted LDF South Shields Town Centre and Waterfront Area Action for development; and that includes the provision of new housing.”The application is set to go before South Tyneside council on 22 November with the recommendation for approval subject to conditions.
