Industrial estate earmarked for major development
A Loughborough industrial estate which extends to 53 acres and is located within the Midlands’ ‘Global Triangle’ has been earmarked for a major development.A hybrid planning application has been submitted for land at Nottingham Road, which forms part of Falcon Works Industrial Estate.Falcon Works consists of a mixture of industrial buildings from the 19th and 20th century. The main estate occupiers are predominantly storage and manufacturing, such as Adey Steel Ltd, Brush Transformers Ltd, Falcon Business Park, Wabtec UK Ltd, ETS, Hodgson Acousics Ltd, WB Power Services Ltd and Diam UK Ltd.Lined up in the detailed element of the scheme, brought forward by Falcon UK MLI Property Unit Trust, is the demolition of certain buildings and the creation of six new blocks subdivided into 15 units.Totalling about 191,000 sq ft, the proposed facilities would provide warehousing and office space.The second phase has been submitted in outline and extends to approximately 113,000 sq ft.A statement filed with Charnwood Borough Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The design proposals contained within this report have been developed in response to meetings and discussions held with Charnwood Borough Council and associated consultants, to ensure that their views and input were central to the delivery of this application.”The design seeks to minimise the impact on its surroundings, providing an attractive, contemporary and cohesive design that is fit for purpose and safe for all.”The proposals represent a high-quality development and a substantial investment to the area. In particular, the development will help to promote and support employment growth and stimulate further economic benefits to the area, cohesive with regional and local aspirations.”
