Innovative projects get the go-ahead

Two innovative projects in the Hob Moor area of the city have moved a step closer this week with plans now approved for both schemes.Proposals for the development of the Lincoln Court Independent Living Scheme – which was granted planning permission earlier this week (20 March) – will see the existing site extended from 26 accommodation units to 35 high quality apartments with improved communal facilities.The development is adjacent to the site for the new Centre of Excellence for Disabled Children – one of the first facilities of its kind in the country – which was granted planning permission in December and will see the development of the former Windsor House Older People’s Home site.The innovative scheme is a joint-funded, partnership initiative between City of York Council and the NHS and will provide disabled children, young people and their families with community and overnight short breaks in a purpose built easily accessible safe space as well as support from a range of professionals.Children and young people with Autism, Learning Difficulties and or other complex health needs will be able to have short breaks and access the Family Intervention Rapid Support Team (FIRST Team). This new service will provide a clinical –psychology-led intensive assessment and intervention service for families with children who have Autism and/or Learning Disabilities who display challenging behaviour that can affect their ability to live at home.The schemes are next to Hob Moor Oaks Special and Community Primary School.
