Investment lined up for Salford and Bolton schemes

Two packages of works across Salford and Bolton look set to be backed with the investment needed to get the schemes up and running.The Salford Bolton Network Improvements (SBNI) initiative is being brought forward in a number of different elements, with each comprising of a series of interventions which focus on junction layouts, pedestrian access provisions, bus priority measures and cycle infrastructure.These are geared towards making travel easier and reducing journey times, with the project having an overall budget from Local Growth Deal funding of £32.297m and a contribution of £800,000 from Salford City Council.Two of the elements concern the A666/A6 and Manchester Road Gateway, respectively.The former includes junction upgrades, bus priority measures, and cycling and walking enhancements, with Salford City Council set to bring the works forward using the Manchester City Council Highways Framework.Subject to GMCA granting approval, a contractor would be appointed in the winter of 2019 ahead of completion a year later. A total of £3.35m has been requested.Manchester Roady Gateway represents a collection of junction upgrades in close proximity to Bolton town centre. A total of £638,000 is being sought, which would bring the total being approved by GMCA to about £3.98m.The majority would come from the Local Growth Deal, with a small amount being secured from the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund.The authority will meet on 29 November.
