Job-creating police offices tipped for go-ahead

A four-storey office building for West Midlands Police could be constructed in Birmingham after the plans were recommended for approval.The building has been earmarked for land in Park Lane, set back from the Aston Express Way, which is currently the site of the West Midlands Police Transport Department.In total, 74,141 sq ft of office space for various police departments would be created as well as room for a total of 242 employees and 480 car parking spaces.The proposed building would include open plan office areas, storage areas, meeting rooms and staff facilities and would be in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Birmingham City Council’s planning committee is set to make a final decision on the application at a meeting on Thursday 11 April.The principal contractor for the scheme is Willmott Dixon Construction while the plans have been designed by Associated Architects.
