Job-creating Torbay supermarket set to move ahead
Plans to build a job-creating supermarket in Torbay – in a move designed to bring “significant economic and health benefits” to the area – look set to advance.Lidl is behind the application, which concerns a five-acre site to the west of Kings Ash Road in Paignton. As well as the supermarket, a 137-space car park is also proposed to the north and east of the building. If backed, the proposal would create employment both in the construction phase and create up to 40 jobs during the operation. It is anticipated that the scheme would also bring “significant economic and health benefits” in terms of access to fresh food and employment.A total of 218 letters of representation were received during the planning process, with 148 in support, 63 in objection and seven being neutral. The application is set to go before Torbay Council’s planning committee on 14 February, with approval having been recommended.
