JV lodges major student accommodation plans
A joint venture partnership has lodged plans for a student accommodation development of more than 800 units on the site of a former Sainsbury’s in Birmingham.A JV between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital is seeking planning permission to transform the site of 1 Chapel Lane, Selly Oak.The partnership acquired the site in March 2023 and launched a public consultation on the proposals earlier this year.Lined up is two blocks of purpose-built student apartments and student communal facilities of up to six storeys in height.It is proposed that 56 per cent of 836 bed spaces will be studio units with the residual 44 per cent comprising cluster accommodation.Approximately 13,720 sq ft of commercial space is also included in the plans.A Galliard Apsley Partnership spokesperson said: “Following a period of community and stakeholder engagement, we are pleased to have developed a proposal which responds to the site and wider area.”We look forward to delivering another proposal in Birmingham and helping to invigorate this area of Selly Oak.”
