Keepmoat Homes submits plans for riverside development

Keepmoat Homes has submitted a planning application for the residential element of a new riverside development in South Shields.The housebuilder will work in partnership with South Tyneside Council and Alnwick-based developer Cussins on the Holborn Riverside development.The proposal covers the transformation of the disused docks and surrounding brownfield land into a new housing development comprising up to 350 new homes, of which 53 will be affordable.The scheme will include a new promenade, opening up access through the site from Laygate to Mill Dam along the riverside for both new and existing residents. Discussions are also under way with local organisations to bring the three docks that are to be retained into use creating further interest and activity along the riverside.The 297 homes for sale will include a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and apartments. Bernicia will provide 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments and houses for affordable rent and 13 two-bedroom houses will be available for discount market sale.The Holborn Riverside development will also feature a 200,000 sq ft office being procured by the council.The development is set to create or safeguard 1,500 construction jobs, and Keepmoat Homes has also pledged?to support the local area and help generate opportunities in training and employment through apprenticeships and work placements. The office development is also expected to create a further 1,550 jobs.
