Kier starts work on £15m Acute Medicine Unit at Torbay Hospital

Kier, a leading provider of construction and infrastructure services, has broken ground at Torbay Hospital where it will deliver a new £15m Acute Medicine Unit (AMU). Members of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, who run the hospital, joined Kier to celebrate the start of work on this vitally important new healthcare scheme. Procured through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), the AMU will provide increased capacity and support the hospital’s Emergency Department. The new building will replace the existing AMU unit, providing modern, state-of-the-art facilities as well as nearly doubling capacity with 52 assessment spaces.The project is set to be complete by spring 2022 and over the duration of the project, Kier will utilise its extensive experience in the healthcare sector, and work with its skilled and local supply chain partners, to deliver the project. This latest win reinforces Kier’s position as a leading provider of healthcare buildings, with other project including an £87m project at Musgrove Park Hospital, a £98m transformation of Heatherwood Hospital and a £97.1m scheme for Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham.
