Landmark Glasgow building to be turned into SME and co-working space

A landmark building on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street will be turned into an SME and co-working space if a planning application lodged is given the go ahead.The proposed McLellan Works in one of the city’s most elegant buildings will be home to creative SMEs and food and retail outlets under the scheme aimed to be open in autumn 2019.The plan is for McLellan Works to occupy an entire block on the north side of Sauchiehall Street and complement the £7 million investment programme on Sauchiehall Street.The Sauchiehall Street investment, part of the ‘Avenues’ project, would see the creation of wider pavements, a two-way cycle lane and improved lighting and seating areas.The aim is for McLellan Works to continue to serve as the entrance for the McLellan Galleries, which stands immediately behind the building and is currently occupied by the Glasgow School of Art.The building has 3,200 square metres (34,440 square feet) of mixed co-working and SME office space over the upper three storeys.The ground floor commercial space has 871 square metres (9,366 square feet) of retail and commercial space.A focal point will be the central entrance with an artisan café and meeting spaces providing access to the building.The development is being led by McLellan Works’ new owner, Bywater Properties, with its transformative redesign being carried out by Glasgow-based architects, Stallan Brand, while local design agency Graphical House is leading the development of the brand identity.
