Latest plans submitted for landmark Leeds development

Plans have been lodged for more than 800,000 sq ft of offices, residential units, a hotel and multi-storey car park on the remaining section of a landmark development site in Leeds city centre.CBRE, on behalf of Hermes Wellington Place Site 2 Ltd, has now submitted an application to Leeds City Council for the 8.1 acres making up site 2 of Wellington Place.Outline planning permission is sought for about 1.62 million sq ft of development over six plots. The tallest of the proposed buildings would measure 20 storey, with other of between nine and 13 storeys.This would comprise four plots of office space, totalling about 825,000 sq ft, a 200-bed hotel, about 250,000 sq ft of residential space accommodation approximately 200 units, and a 500-space multi-storey car park.Flexible retail and leisure space would also be provided on the ground floor of the new buildings, with landscaping and public realm works also proposed.Under the plans, the existing four-storey No.1 Wellington Place office building would be demolished.A masterplan for the wider Wellington Place scheme was approved in 2008, covering 2.6 million sq ft of space across 13 buildings. To date, about £300m has so far been invested to develop Site 1.Once complete the development is expected to support about 14,000 jobs and represent a £600m investment in Leeds City Centre.MEPC Limited (MEPC) is developing and asset managing Wellington Place on behalf of joint venture partners Hermes Real Estate and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.The land at Wellington Place was originally the site of Leeds Central Station until its closure in 1967. It was then occupied by a retail park until its demolition in 2003.
