Latimer Boddingtons Brewery homes voted through
Latimer’s scheme to redevelop the former Boddingtons Brewery site in Manchester into a residential development has been approved.Manchester City Council planners backed the Great Ducie Street project, which includes two blocks, one reaching 27 storeys at its height, and the smaller of the two, rising to 11 storeys.Latimer plans to build 461 apartments on the 1.2 acre site, of which 60 per cent would be affordable. Also proposed is 7,728 sq ft of commercial space. The site is used for temporary parking and is bounded by a Travelodge, surface parking, Manchester College, which is nearing completion, and Bury New Road.It is in the Boddingtons Strategic Regeneration Framework and Great Ducie Street Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) areas, which support high density development as the city centre expands.Planning permission was granted in 2018 for 556 apartments and 37,566 sq ft of commercial at Old Brewery Gardens on the eastern portion of the Brewery site. This is in buildings ranging from 26 to 12 storeys. An officer’s report considered by the committee said the development would contribute to housing supply in the city and population growth.Up to 60 per cent of the homes would be affordable with affordable rent and shared ownership, it added.
