Leeds apartment scheme to be presented

Plans for a development of more than 150 apartments on the edge of Leeds city centre are set to be presented to councillors nest week.Keepmoat Regeneration will make a pre-application presentation to Leeds City Council on its proposals for a site to the east of Carlton Gate and north of Clay Pit Lane.The development would comprise a tower block ranging from five to 15 storeys, featuring a total of 160 apartments. A mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom properties are planned.A total of 16 car parking spaces would be provided within an undercroft area.An initial scheme was presented to the council in December 2017 for single 11-storey block comprising 213 apartments, together with parking, greenspace and commercial units.However, the planning board raised concerns over the removal of a landscaped mound facing onto Clay Pit Lane as well as the proposed design, which was said to be “out of character” with the surroundings.The new scheme proposes the removal of the landscaped mound and its replacement with a re-profiled landform which would create a public pocket park with amenity space, seating and re- contoured landscape.The scheme will be presented to the council’s South and West Plans Panel on 14 June, ahead of the submission of a planning application.Members will be asked to consider whether they support the loss of the mound and green infrastructure; the layout, scale and design of the scheme; and the affordable housing strategy.
