Leisure centres set for multimillion-pound investment
A funding package of £3.1m is set to be spent on new facilities at The Dolphin, Kings Centre and The Triangle leisure centres in Mid Sussex.At a cabinet meeting on 11 July 2016, Mid Sussex District Council approved funding of £1.2m towards the project and this will be added to £1.9m provided by the council’s partner Places for People Leisure, which took over the management of the three Mid Sussex leisure centres in 2014.The largest cash injection will be provided to The Triangle leisure centre, which has seen a growth of 60 per cent in gym attendance since 2014. A larger, purpose-built gym will be created on the first floor to accommodate extra fitness and weight-training machines. A brand new climbing facility will also be installed to replace two of the four existing squash courts along with a new open plan café area.In addition, the members’ changing room areas at The Triangle and The Dolphin centres will be “significantly improved” and will benefit from new lockers and improved shower facilities.The Kings Centre, in East Grinstead, underwent a series of improvements in 2014, including the creation of a bigger gym with brand new equipment, better changing facilities and a new café area. Its latest investment will build on this work by upgrading the floor of the swimming pool changing rooms and the installation of new toilets near its reception.
