LYHA to build new Barnsley residential development
Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) is set to build more than 50 new homes on a site in Barnsley.Planning permission has been granted for the construction of 54 new houses in Athersley South, with work scheduled to begin on site in the summer. The £5.7m development will be part funded by a £2m Homes England grant. It will comprise eight apartments, six bungalows and 40 houses. Five properties will be available for shared ownership and the remainder for affordable rent. The development has been designed by Leeds based architects’ practice Acanthus WSM and will be built by Engie. Construction is expected to take about 15 months, with completion scheduled for autumn 2019.Once completed, the houses will bring the total owned and managed by LYHA to more than 1,500, of which 197 will be in the Barnsley area.
